Established in 1989, Skytrax are specialist Research Advisors to the air transport industry. It is a privately owned UK company based in London
The World Airport Service Quality Survey is not operated as a subscription based study, where only airports that are willing to pay a fee can be included - as with any Skytrax study, it is an all-inclusive project where every single airport in the world has the potential of being included.
There is no limit to the number of airports that are covered in this major, annual Passenger Survey of Airport Service Quality.
Skytrax operate this customer survey as an online completion format, and it is based upon measuring Customer Satisfaction levels on a "post-travel" basis. This format can be more accurate that "time of travel" intercept type surveys, especially where passenger stress levels can have a negative impact on their later, more reasoned assessment of standards.
This established Survey format used by Skytrax for more than 15 years also guarantees that there is no opportunity for airport staff to operate any element of potentially misleading "self-completion" of customer survey forms - a problem with some projects operated in this industry.
The survey operates as a "not-for-profit" study, and is free of any type of third party influence, outside payment or sponsorship / subscription.
Commenting on this strict observance of independence, Edward Plaisted of Skytrax said: "we have always applied a very strict code of conduct in terms of retaining full independence from any outside influence for this survey, and will maintain this for all future years as well. Our belief is that for a Survey and any subsequent Awards process to have any credibility, it must not have any financial connection to the airports. We do not charge a fee to airports, we do not operate any limitation to member airports only, and we do not operate an awards process or ceremony that requires any payment from an award winner".
