JET AIRWAYS RECEIVES GOVT NOD TO COMMENCE CARGO SERVICES

The ministry of civil aviation has granted in-principle approval to Naresh Goyal-promoted Jet Airways to wet lease one freighter aircraft from Etihad Airways to begin cargo services.

Jet Airways had sought permission from the civil aviation ministry to wet lease an Airbus A 330-200 freighter from Etihad for two years, official sources said. As per notified norms the initial nod has been given for a period of six months.

Under a wet lease arrangement, a lessor leases an aircraft with crew, insurance and maintenance services to the lessee.

Jet had planned to launch cargo services earlier as well but the plan had got shelved due to adverse business environment. Currently, no domestic airline has its own fleet to operate long-haul cargo services.
